Original Civil War Watertown M1863 Contract Rifle with nice overall displaying patina. There were 12,800 produced under direct Gov't Contract. The mechanics are fully functional with nice tight action. The hammer clicks in both positions. The Walnut stock is in good shape with normal wear from service but no breaks. The lock has the U.S. , Eagle and Watertown maker mark as well as the 1863 production date on the rear of the hammer. The barrel is full length with the original front rear and front sight. ("VP" and Eagle Proof Marks) Has a replacement blacksmith/custom made original period ramrod. It does have U.S. marked original buttplate but may be a replacement. Not an exact fit but close enough to use if a soldier needed. Has all three "U" inspector marked barrel bands. Both sling swivels are MIA. An overall great displaying musket that was sure to have seen many battles at an affordable price. Please see all photos for condition.
